The Head of the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) Media Monitoring Unit (MMU) is Mr. Remington Eastman.
Mr. Eastman is a trained Journalist. He is also a Graduate of the University of Guyana and holds the Diploma in Public. Communication (Dist.); Bachelor of Social Science Degree in Mass Communication (Dist.); and, the Post-Graduate Diploma in Development Studies (Dist.).
Professionally, Mr. Eastman has wide experience in the regulatory aspects of media communication and served for many years as the Project Manager of the Guyana Elections Commission, Media Monitoring Unit, prior to his current tenure with the ERC.
In February, 2011, he joined the ERC and was instrumental in the setting-up of the Commission’s MMU.
In pursuit of the ERC’s Constitutional mandate to promote ethnic harmony and good relations between and amongst all citizens of Guyana, the MMU is pivotal to the work of the organization, as it gives the Commission the ability to scrutinize media content for conformity to the country’s ethnic Laws.
As Head of the MMU, Mr. Eastman has overall responsibility for staff training, administration and media analysis.
His hobbies are playing football, reading, doing research and being involved in community activities. He is married and has two (2) children.
